WHAT AREAS DO YOU SERVE?
Three Ridges Touring is based in Nelson County, Virginia and surrounding areas.
The land on which we recreate is currently stewarded by the United States Forest Service (USFS), National Park Service (NPS),and many non-profit trail work organizations including but not limited to Appalachian Trail Conservancy, The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen, Charlottesville Area Trail Runners (CATs), Charlottesville Area Mountain Biking Club (CAMBC), Rivanna Trail Foundation.
Three Ridges Touring pays the USFS a percentage of every booking and gives back to the land and outdoor community through volunteer trail work and donations of goods or services to organizations that increase opportunities for all people to recreate outside.
WHY WOULD I WANT TO HIRE A GUIDE? I HAVE A MAP.
Maps are great and there are some highly informative apps out there, but if you want to maximize your time exploring awesome trails and taking in the beautiful scenery, a local guide will make that possible. We take the stress and guesswork out of route finding for you so you can focus on having fun! We know the ins and outs of the local landscape, trails appropriate for your skill level, and bailout points if something goes wrong. Also, we have first aid training, a satellite communication device for emergency rescue, and extra food & water.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING/WEAR?
For all our adventures, water is required and we recommend bringing snacks, you definitely have to fuel for your adventure! For biking tours, a helmet is required. If you have cycling shorts, these will maximize your comfort, but any kind of athletic shorts will do. For hiking tours, sturdy shoes are important, no sandals are allowed. For trail running excursions, we recommend a trail specific shoe. Also, don’t forget the seasonal essentials such as bug spray, sunscreen, rain jacket, etc. A Three Ridges Touring guide will contact you prior to your excursion so that you know what to expect, what to bring/what not to bring and can ask questions.
DO YOU RENT BIKES?
We do not rent bikes directly, but there are several great options for a quality rental. Depending on where you are traveling from or staying, you can find rental options from bike shops in Charlottesville, Crozet, Staunton, Harrisonburg, Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Richmond.
WHAT KIND OF BIKE DO I NEED?
For mountain bike adventures, a good quality modern mountain bike is recommended. Department store bikes are not recommended for safety reasons.
